In the aftermath of the hurricane, gas has proven difficult to acquire in some heavily-hit areas, reports The Huffington Post.
As a result, Craigslist users are selling a gallon of fuel for up to $20 (£13).
However, other people are willing to exchange gas for sexual favours.
One New York advert titled "GAS GAS GAS HERE....Wanna Trade - m4w" reads: "I've got gas from Hess and looking for any sexy women who may not want to wait in those long lines for hours and hours only to find the station empty when its their turn.
"So let me know I'm sure we could work something out to get your tank filled and empty mine."
Attorneys general in both New Jersey and New York are currently working on cracking down against price gouging.
