In a report by Odd News, Jennifer Fitzgerald claims ex-boyfriend Brandon Preveau bought a used car from her uncle costing $600 (£374) in 2008, but registered the car in Fitzgerald's name without her knowledge.
When the couple broke up three years ago, Preveau abandoned the car in the airport where he worked, where since then it has clocked up 678 parking tickets.
Despite Fitzgerald's insistance that she asked her former boyfriend to move the car, and tried to move it herself, her driving licence has been suspended. The council have also demanded she pay the fines.
Fitzgerald is now filing a lawsuit arguing that the city broke policy and kept ticketing the Chevy when it was not procedure to do so.
She is also suing her ex, his employer, United Airlines and the city of Chicago. The case is due to come to court next spring.
