Runaway zebra and pony spotted by New York shop owner - video

Shop workers in Staten Island, New York were surprised to see a zebra and a pony taking a casual stroll down the street.

The runaway animals were captured on film in a shopping centre car park.



Speaking with SILive.com, shop owner Zachary Osher, who recorded the strange event, said: "I was sitting at my desk at about 9.20am when I saw a zebra and pony run back and forth across the street, almost getting hit by a car."

Osher also describes seeing two men with lassos trying to wrangle the escaped pair.

He added: "I have no idea how [the zebra] got there... I figured [the men with lassos] knew what to do."

A police spokesman confirmed that the zebra and pony were caught and returned to their zoo.
