Edward Goble in Essex had stolen a scooter worth £400 as well as a collection of records when he was caught on CCTV making his exit, reports The Sun.
The picture was then shared on a Facebook page named Basildon Memories.
"Hope you don't mind me putting this," said the user who posted the photo. "This guy broke into my cousin's garage today and stole a child's scooter and a box of records.
"This site can raise more awareness than the police can!!!"
The 28-year-old thief was quickly identified, and Goble was arrested later that day.
