Christopher Franklin Weaver from Oregon was originally jailed for failing to appear on charges of unauthorised use of a motor vehicle and violating parole for sex abuse.
He was later freed due to a lack of space in the jail, which recently saw a reduction of 35 beds, according to KVAL News.
However, Weaver was then captured after a reported bank robbery in Eugene, one mile away from the prison.
31 other people in custody were released as a result of the sheriff's budget restraints.
