A special recycled orchestra is literally rubbish.

The Orchestra of Instruments Recycled from Cateura is a group of young people who create musical instruments from waste.

Members use old cans, metal drums and galvanised piping to create things like guitars, cellos and brass instruments.

The children in the group are part of a Landfill Harmonic documentary which explores the lives of 20 young people who live in one of the largest landfill sites in South America.

These people and their families make a living by scavenging through the endless piles of rubbish.

Social worker and music teacher Favio Chavez wanted to inspire these children through the power of music.

Because instruments were so difficult to come by, the group started making their own out of the resources they had to hand.

Chavez said: "We want to provide a way out of the landfill for these kids and their families. So we're doing the impossible so that they can travel outside Paraguay, to become renowned and admired."

The initiative began five years ago, and while some of the youngsters have slipped back into lives of drugs and crime, others have really excelled and have even been travelling to other countries as part of the documentary.
