Christmas tree throwing competition held in Germany - video

The first week of January has passed, meaning Christmas decorations are coming down.

If you're not a fan of plastic trees that live in the attic, the annual task of having to chuck out the real ones is also underway.

To combat this January errand, a Christmas tree throwing championship has been created in Germany.



People from the town of Weidenthal in southern Germany have put on the annual 'Knut-Fest' games, in order to welcome in the New Year.

Competitors bring their own decoration-free trees, and attempt to throw them the highest or the furthest.

The three styles of competition are Weitwurf (javelin-style), Hammerwurf (hammer-style) and Hochwurf (high-jump-style) throwing.

The winner is the person who has achieved the biggest total distance at the end of the competition.

Frank Schwender, 48, from the town of Frankeneck, won the tournament for the third year in a row, with a total distance of 22.45 metres.
