People can vote on Facebook for which of the racecar, thimble, boot, dog, battleship, top hat, iron or wheelbarrow they want to be saved. The least popular will be replaced by a brand new piece.
At the time of writing, the dog is almost assured to be safe from the chop, as it is currently in first place with 33% of votes.
The racecar (15%), battleship (12%) and top hat (12%) are relatively comfortable, but at the bottom, the wheelbarrow at present has only picked up 4%, with the boot and iron at 6%. The thimble has 8%.
Meanwhile, Facebook users can also decide which out of five tokens - which "reflect the interests of today's players" - they want introduced into the board game: robot, ring, cat, helicopter or guitar.
Hasbro spokesman Eric Nyman said: "The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game, and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favourite one.
"When we decided to replace one of the tokens in the game, we knew we had to involve our fans in the process. We can't wait to see which iconic piece will go to jail and which new token the fans will choose to become part of one of the world's most popular games."
The new token will be revealed on February 6.
