Lionel and Blandine Defontaine wanted to honour Ian Somerhalder's alter ego by calling their child Daemon, with the extra 'e' added to give the name a French pronunciation.
However, a court has since prevented them from doing so under a law in the country that prevents the issuing of names "contrary to the interests of a child".
Accoring to Yahoo, the Defontaines denied that the name had Satanic connotations and insisted that they simply liked how it sounded.
Last April, two men from Nottingham achieved the UK's longest names after changing their identity to honour their favourite superheroes.
Kelvin Borbidge is now known as Baron Venom Balrog Sabretooth Vader Megatron Vegeta Robotnik Magneto Bison Sephiroth Lex Luthor Skeletor Joker Grind.
His friend Daniel Knox-Hewson goes by the name Emperor Spiderman Gandalf Wolverine Skywalker Optimus Prime Goku Sonic Xavier Ryu Cloud Superman HeMan Batman Thrash.
