The first American Idol winner has been tipped by the bookies to win the global version of the show.

Kelly Clarkson is 5/2 favourite with William Hill to take the crown of World Idol on New Years' Day. The UK's Will Young is in a close second at 3/1, with the as-yet undetermined Australian Idol in third at 6/1.

The South African and German winners have odds of 8/1 while the Lebanese Idol is the rank outsider at 20/1 odds.

In total, eleven competitors from the Idol series around the world will compete on the show.
