You would be forgiven for dismissing the constant reminders that "every vote counts" for the Pop Idol finalists.
Last night's result proved the claims correct: the voting really is closely knit and no-one is safe - a stark comparison to last year's show, where Will and Gareth were clearly head-and-shoulders above the rest.
Most were shocked when the acclaimed Roxanne landed herself in the bottom three last week whilst the likes of Chris and Susanne - both of whom failed to shine - escaped the ordeal.
Even more surprises were duely abound this week when Andy was named as one of the bottom two: while Simon had summed up his performance of a lesser known Michael Jackson disco track as "mediocre," there were once again others who gained heavier criticism. One of those was Susanne, who joined him at the bottom of the heap.
Meanwhile, last week's survivors Michelle and Roxanne both escaped, as did Chris, again despite some uninspiring words.
Susanne was whispering her name in anticipation of the result but ultimately Andy was knocked out to much gasping from the studio audience.
After the customary "best moments" and a "thankyou everyone" speech, Ant and Dec revealed that the remaining six would be taking on The Beatles for next week's themed show. And, with the bookies favourite now out of the running, it really is anyone's game.
