Veteran journalist Roger Cook is returning to ITV1 for a 20th anniversary programme.

Cook, who was dubbed the “Taped Crusader” by the media, will look again at his most famous investigations and be reunited with some of the criminals he exposed.

The one-off special, Roger Cook's Greatest Hits, is being made by ITV Productions in association with Interesting Films.

The New Zealand-born broadcaster is best remembered for his Central Television programme The Cook Report and his trademark confrontations with those he was investigating. The show ended its 13-year run in 1998.

Cook last appeared on television as a contestant on ITV1's Hell's Kitchen in 2004, though exited early due to a knee injury.

He said: "This is a very exciting project. So much has happened since the series came off the air and a number of our investigations have turned out to be alarmingly prescient. Hardly a day goes by without someone asking me to update them on one story or the other or when we'll be back on the box. It will be a pleasure to oblige."
