VH1 drops Spice show over legal issues

VH1 has dropped a show idea to find the ultimate Spice Girls tribute act after the band's lawyers raised legal issues.

Wannabe: Spice Girls was billed as a reality-style show to pick the UK's best immitators for each of the girls.

It will now go ahead as Wannabe and, dropping the Spice element, find "those desperate for one last chance to make it".

A spokesperson for VH1 said: "It's true we've had to change the format. There are definitely legal discussions with the Spice Girls' lawyers."

A representative for the band confirmed: "The lawyers are looking into this."

A source told the Daily Mirror: "It's very disappointing for all involved. Now the new format has absolutely nothing to do with finding a new Spice Girls. It couldn't be further away from the original plan.

"But it just wasn't worth getting into a protracted legal fight with such tough opponents."

The series will still begin on November 23.
