In this week's episode of Five's The Hotel Inspector, Watson tells Brian Scott: "You are wrecking your business just by trying to stretch yourself too thinly. If you carry on the way you are at the moment, you are not going to have a business to worry about because you will be dead."
Brian and wife Gill had invested their life savings into the Key West hotel in Newquay, with the aim of living out their twilight years running a peaceful hotel for holidaying families.
Their dream soon turned into a nightmare, however, when money issues forced them to accept the hotelier's most feared clientelle - stag and hen bookings. The rowdy guests, who paid just £19 per head per night, trashed the hotel and left the couple on the brink of bankruptcy.
"We did a bit of a makeover, which helped a lot - psychologically at least," Watson told DS. "I don't think it's a hugely hopeful story but we certainly turned a corner and he saw a light at the end of the tunnel."
The Hotel Inspector airs tomorrow (Thursday) at 9pm on Five.
