The 25-year-old entertainer found himself in the bottom two alongside Ben Ellis after his performance of Elvis classic Suspicious Minds failed to impress the public enough. Judge Denise Van Outen had earlier praised him for "blossoming" throughout the competition, but Andrew Lloyd Webber expressed concern that he had been too "smiley".
Craig and Ben performed Barry Manilow's I Made It Through The Rain in the final sing-off before Lloyd Webber announced that Craig would be leaving the competition: "It was the smile. I'm really sorry."
"I'm a totally different performer, and I've got you guys to thank," Craig explained. "I'm so happy to have made the last five."
Any Dream Will Do continues next Saturday at 8.05pm on BBC One.
