Alan Titchmarsh has revealed that he turned down an offer to appear on Hell's Kitchen.

The TV presenter and gardener, who is currently hosting his own ITV1 daytime show, has vowed that he will never star on a reality TV series.

"I like to watch TV to be informed or entertained but I don't find reality shows enjoyable. Television is such a young medium and they seem to tire of people easily," Alan told The People.

"I sent Hell's Kitchen packing very quickly. The prospect of walking into a kitchen so that Gordon Ramsay or the likes could swear at me doesn't appeal at all. I don't see any point in going on television just for the sake of going on television - I'm on to share my enthusiasms.

"In fact, the only one I'd love to do is Strictly Come Dancing. I've been asked a couple of times but I can't commit to 12 weeks. Fame is a by-product of being on TV, not a reason for doing it. I'd be embarrassed to do those reality shows - and I just don't want to push my luck with the viewers."
