Amy Booth-Steel ('I'd Do Anything')

Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for a Nancy and Oliver for the upcoming musical production of Oliver! began at the weekend on BBC One's I'd Do Anything live finals. Despite a confident performance of 'Respect' on Saturday's show, chirpy Brummie Amy Booth-Steel found herself in the bottom two with Francesca Jackson after the public vote. With both contestants performing 'Tell Me On A Sunday', Andrew Lloyd Webber made the tough decision to send Amy home. DS caught up with the Amy to talk about her time on the show.

Where you disappointed to be first off?
"Yeah, I think so. Obviously my initial reaction is that I'm really, really upset. I really didn't want to go, someone had to go and unfortunately it was me, but I've had the absolute time of my life."

It’s a great platform for you to get recognised, though.
"Absolutely, I feel so privileged and very lucky to have gotten so far, out of so many girls."

How did you feel when you found out you'd be on the show?
"It was like an out of body experience. It was unbelievable, I couldn't believe I'd gotten so far. Every time I kept getting through each round, it just made me want [to win] more and more and more."

Did you find it tough performing in front of Andrew Lloyd-Webber?
"It was amazing. It's quite hard to get the concept that so many millions of people are watching. You kind of have to block that out to be able to cope with it."

You've spent a lot of time with all the Nancy contestants - have there been any arguments?
"We've all been living in the Nancy House! We all get on really well because we're all so different."

What do you make of the stories about Denise working with Francesca before (in Rent Remixed)? Do you think that's fair on everyone else?
"I think Francesca's worked equally as hard as the rest of us to get where she is in the competition now. As for her knowing Denise, that's not really any of my business."

Which Nancy do you think will go all the way?
"I think out of the final twelve, everybody deserves to get on in the business now. Everyone is deserving of something. In terms of Nancy, I think there's quite a few girls who've got it."

Since it's the last twelve, the standard is quite high.
"Absolutely. If I had to pick a few people who I think could go all the way and do a good job for that specific role I'd probably say Ashley, Rachel, Jodie or Sam."

How would you sum up your experience?
"Absolutely unbelievable, I can't believe it's happened to me and I have absolutely no regrets."

What are your plans for the future?
"I'm going to get myself back out there and hopefully if I'm not right for Nancy, someone out there will see that I'm right for something else."
