Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber chose to eliminate the 24-year-old Scot from the BBC One reality show after she faced Niamh in a sing-off.
After the pair performed 'Don't Cry For Me, Argentina' from Evita, Lloyd Webber decided who to retain for next week's quarter-final.
"I've said Niamh is a little young for this, and I was very hard on you, Ashley. In the end, I've got to save Niamh," he explained.
Lloyd Webber offered encouragement for drama teacher Ashley, saying: "I do want to say that you are a fantastic talent, but you don't communicate it on stage. I really would like to work with you one day. Your students should be very proud of you."
Of the Oliver hopefuls, 11-year-old Laurence from Cheshire secured a place in the semi-finals.
