Nicole Kidman named her daughter Sunday after an Australian patron of the arts.

Kidman's father Anthony revealed that the new arrival was inspired by Sunday Reed, the muse of Australian painter Sidney Nolan.

He told News.com.au: "There was a lady named Sunday Reed who was a prominent patron of the arts in Victoria. The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it."

Reports have suggested that the baby was named after a song written by Kidman's husband, country singer Keith Urban.

Another source claimed that the choice was a swipe at Scientology, saying: "Nicole is a Catholic, and Sunday was an important religious day for her until she was involved in Scientology."
