Boy George: 'I was strung out on drugs'

Boy George has revealed that he has spent five years in a "chemical cloud".

In a frank interview with Q, the '80s pop icon admitted that he only managed to overcome his drug addictions at the end of last year.

He said: "I've been strung out on drugs for the last five years. But this time I'm clean for good. I don't want to die. I've spent five years in this chemical cloud. Getting clean at the end of 2007 was a very big thing. I was using half my brain, half my personality on drugs."

The 47-year-old cited drug abuse as the reason for his personal turmoil in recent years.

"A friend took me to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting and I was like an old f***ing man," he confessed. "I could barely walk I'd been using so much f***ing drugs. Everything that's gone wrong in my life has been because of drugs."
