Fern Britton reveals heart attack fears

Fern Britton has revealed that she decided to lose weight because she feared suffering a heart attack.

The TV host, who fronts ITV1's This Morning, was encouraged to make major changes to her lifestyle after her cholesterol levels rose.

"I've always felt that I would go on until I was at least 85 years old," she told Slim At Home magazine. "But it was in the last few years, my cholesterol crept up. I thought I'd be careful because I didn't want to have a heart attack. Now I'm very happy. Enough weight has disappeared to make a difference."

Britton's weight loss caused controversy in June after it was revealed that she had a gastric band fitted two years ago. She was accused of deceiving the public as she had always credited exercise and healthy eating for her new slim figure.

In the new interview, the presenter has warned against becoming obsessed by dieting and fitness.

"Women focused on dieting and themselves very often have an unhappy personal relationship," she explained. "I love eating and I've fed my body crap in the past. But life's too short to be constantly depriving ourselves."
