Madonna expressed disappointment over the turnout at her 50th birthday party, a report claims.

The Queen of Pop celebrated the occasion with her husband Guy Ritchie and 90 guests at the Volstead nightclub on Saturday. However, a number of her showbiz friends - including Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney - were mysteriously absent.

According to The Mirror, Madonna told her guests in a speech: "I'm really disappointed. There are a lot of people who are not here tonight, but thanks to everyone who did make it.

"I can't believe I have reached half a century. It only happens once and this is an event I'm glad to be sharing with you."

In his own speech, Ritchie later announced that Madonna looked "better than ever" and revealed that he is "so proud" of his wife.
