'Brokeback' author 'sick of fan fiction'

The author of Brokeback Mountain has admitted that she is sick of receiving pornographic rewrites of her tale from fans.

Annie Proulx said the imaginations of would-be writers had been stoked by the 2005 film version of her story from director Ang Lee, with Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal playing the lovestruck cowboys.

She added that many consider that the plot lacks sex scenes and feel obliged to write their own and send them her way.

"They constantly send ghastly manuscripts and pornish rewrites of the story to me, expecting me to reply with praise and applause for 'fixing' the story. They certainly don't get the message that if you can't fix it, you've got to stand it," she said.

Plans are currently underway to make Brokeback Mountain into an opera, scheduled to open in New York in 2013.
