Ashley Jenson has called Ricky Gervais a "groundbreaking" performer.
The Extras star made the comment after Red magazine asked her why she thought the programme was such a hit.
"I think it had something to do with Extras being produced by HBO. Having the network on board meant Extras got the exposure," she said.
"And the humour in the show was almost like a turnaround in comedy. [Ricky] is groundbreaking, so people stopped and took notice."
Jenson recently revealed that Gervais has not ruled out making more episodes of the show.
"There's a kind of a never say never thing because a lot of people have asked Ricky about this. I was like 'I've got to know because people keep asking me'," she said.
