Carol: 'Countdown' exit made me ill

Carol Vorderman has revealed that the stress surrounding her exit from Countdown made her believe she was having a stroke.

The 47-year-old announced that she was leaving the show earlier this year after a contract disagreement with producers. The mathematics expert said that she thinks the decision affected her health one morning.

"I had gone numb all down my right side. I couldn't feel anything touching my arm, and my skin was cold. I was terrified. I went to hospital, and it turned out to be an extreme physical reaction to tremendous stress," she told the Daily Mail.

Countdown bosses gave Vorderman 48 hours to choose to take a 90% pay cut or to lave the show. "All the worry had been building up for weeks and, on that particular morning, my body just couldn't take any more. It was so scary," she said.

However, Vorderman added that she has had a great time as part of the programme. "I had enjoyed 26 wonderful years, for which I feel blessed, with a blip at the end."

Last week, it was confirmed that Jeff Stelling and Rachel Riley will be the new presenters of Countdown.
