Barack Obama will star in an upcoming Spider-Man comic book story.

The President-elect will be the focus of attention in a six-page story that sees the Marvel Comics superhero prevent an impostor taking Obama's place on the day of his inauguration.

Speaking to Reuters about the 'Spidey meets the President' issue, Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada said that he was shocked to discover a list of facts about Obama stating that he collects Spider-Man comic books.

"Right at the top of that list was he collected Spider-Man comics," he said. "I was inundated with tons of fan mail saying 'Have you read this?' I was just floored, absolutely floored, to find out that the future commander-in-chief was actually going to be the future nerd-in-chief."

He continued: "I think one of the reasons why Obama would be a huge Spider-Man fan is probably because of the mantra by which he lives... that with great power there must also come great responsibility.

"As president of the United States, I think that's a credo that he should live by."

The Obama Spider-Man comic hits stores on January 14 ahead of Obama's inauguration on January 20.
