Peter Kay: 'I'll never leave the North'

Peter Kay has said that he will never leave the North West of England and move to the capital.

The comedian told The Mirror that he hates being away from his family for any length of time.

Kay said: "I'd never move away. You don't have to. Seven years ago, they'd have sent a courier up the motorway through the rain with a tape. Now you can watch stuff on your computer.

"You don't need to be anywhere else. Technology has changed so much, you can be where you like."

He added: "It's about self-sacrifice. Since having children, I've worked, but I've maintained the balance of being at home as well.

"Family are very important to me. They keep you grounded and sane. It's really important that you don't lose that.

"It's lonely being stuck in a hotel in London for two nights. Even a couple of nights away from the children is awful. The longest I've been away is four nights, and that was a killer."

Of his upcoming live dates in Manchester, he said: "It feels more secure to do it closer to home.

"It'll be like being back on nights. I can put the children to bed, do the show and be back for Dexter on telly. I should have called it the 'Back for Dexter Tour'!"
