JK Rowling panicked after losing a notebook containing plot details for the final Harry Potter novel.

The author, who plans to start writing the final instalment this month, mislaid the notes at her Edinburgh home.

"I have finally located it," she assured fans on her website. "I had been remembering, in its absence, that it contained essential notes. Now I see that it contains a few useful nuggets amid a lot of complete dross."
