David and Victoria Beckham have said they are settling into Spanish life and may stay in the country for good.

While the footballer is enjoying playing for Read Madrid, his wife is warming to the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Asked if he could finish his career playing for the Spanish club, David said: "I think so. Because at the end of my career, I want to be known as a player that’s played at a top level, for the best teams."

He continued: "There are no other clubs that I would rather play for in England anymore."

The couple are also finding living in a foreign country easier than they had thought. “We’ve finally found a house that we like here. We’ve found an area that we like it’s in the same area where the kids’ school is," explained David. "You know, everything’s settled down."

Victoria was asked whether the pair would return to the UK when her husband retires. “I’m not sure we would now and no-one’s more surprised than me about saying this but I don’t want to go back right now," she replied. "We’ve got our house, we’ve got a nice set of friends, the kids are happy.”

The comments were made for ITV documentary David Beckham: A Footballer’s Story, airing tonight (May 23) at 9pm on ITV1.
