Jessica Simpson has confirmed that she is returning to the dating scene by striking up a romance with singer-songwriter John Mayer.

The former Newlyweds star has been linked to several celebrities since separation from husband Nick Lachey last year, but has never acknowledged the reports.

However, the singer now seems ready to admit that she is gradually getting back into seeing people.

A source told People magazine: "It's the first stage. She's never been happier."
