Gordon Ramsay has opened his first restaurant in the US in New York.

The celebrity chef and Hell's Kitchen presenter has gained fame across the Atlantic as his show goes out on Fox and critics have waited intently for his new venture.

The London, described as elegant with a French-influenced menu, is situated inside the London NYC Hotel, where its tables are booked solidly for the coming two months.

At its opening event, Ramsay explained that the restaurant was his biggest and most costly outing so far. "The till has to start working," he told The Associated Press. "New York is an expensive place to survive."

The star's empire now amounts to 10 outlets including the flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London.
