Darren Day has revealed that Cliff Richard helped him through problems in his personal life.

The I'm A Celebrity star has publicly thanked Cliff for giving him advice when he was suffering from a drug addiction. Day has now claimed that he is back on the straight and narrow and is determined to stay clean for his wife Stephanie.

"I spoke to Cliff Richard about religion. Sir Cliff has always lived his life very cleanly," Darren told New magazine. "At that point I was homeless. I slept in my car. I was on the verge of bankruptcy and hooked on drugs.

"Then, when I did I'm A Celebrity I spoke to boxer Nigel Benn who is a born again Christian. He was a party boy who did the drug scene and had loads of girls, so I could relate to his story."
