Walsh calls Spice Girls "untalented"

Louis Walsh has claimed he is "sick" of the Spice Girls, describing the reformed girl group as "very overrated" and "untalented".

Referring to the relative lack of success in the girls' solo careers, he told the Irish Independent: "None of them can stand on their own. Nadine from Girls Aloud could definitely go solo - she's the one with the talent and will have a successful solo career. None of the Spice Girls could do that."

The X Factor judge argued that the girl-power pop were not as good performers as Girls Aloud, saying: "The Spice Girls are very lucky and very overrated. None of them can sing and their music is not half as good as Girls Aloud's."

Comparing the two pop acts, he said: "They're [the Spice Girls] not as good as Girls Aloud - or as good-looking."

Explaining the Spice Girls' success, he commented: "Spice Girls appealed to little girls. It wasn't good music - mums would buy the albums for their kids - it was all about the gimmicks."

On the subject of their reunion tour, he added: "They have nothing else to do, nothing else is happening in their lives. One's just a wife of a footballer and the others are not on the radar. They're well past their sell-by dates. I'm sick of them, like I'm sick of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Let's focus on people with talent and the next big thing."
