A US court is considering whether to make Britney Spears and Kevin Federline's divorce documents public.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon said he would look at the request from broadcaster KNBC-TV and People magazine.

Referring to the media, the official commented: "They're appropriate participants in here." He gave representatives for the pair until September 14 to prepare a case for keeping them secret.

However, Mark Vincent Kaplan, lawyer for Federline, told the Press Association the documents contained information about the couple's children: "It would be best for the children that they not be exposed."

The pair officially completed their divorce on July 30 and share custody of sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.
