Ramsay's brother jailed over drugs

Gordon Ramsay's brother Ronald has been sentenced to ten months in jail for possessing heroin.

The celebrity chef's 39-year-old sibling was also fined £381 by the court in Bali following his arrest in February, after 100mg of heroin was found on him in a supermarket.

Under Indonesia's drug laws he could have been sentenced to up to ten years in prison, but he was given a lighter sentence after three judges noted that he had expressed remorse and had pleaded guilty.

Ramsay's lawyer, Erwin Siregar, has said that the sentence was still too harsh because the drugs were only for personal use, but it is not yet known if he will appeal against the decision.

Gordon Ramsay has been trying to help his brother with his drug problems and has previously revealed his anguish for him. Speaking before Ronald's arrest, the Scottish chef told Waitrose Illustrated Food Magazine: "I feel the pain, I feel it big time. I don't think that my mum at 60 should still be putting up with it.

"It is hard dealing with Ronnie. He is a major responsibility. It is like having an 18-year-old to look after."
