Hilton denies helping drunk elephants

Paris Hilton has denied reports that she is trying to stop elephants being electrocuted while drunk.

The heiress was thought to have urged farmers in northeast India to lock up their alcohol when it was found that six of the animals uprooted a utility pole after binging on rice beer.

She was quoted as saying: "The elephants get drunk all the time. It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them."

Conservationists had praised Hilton for speaking out, claiming a celebrity endorsement would raise awareness of the problem.

However, her publicist denied that she had ever commented on drunken elephants and the report was retracted by the Associated Press.
