A guitar that was signed by a number of famous musicians for charity has been lost in the post.

The Fender Stratocaster instrument was signed by stars including Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, Bill Wyman, Pete Townshend and Queen's Brian May.

It was expected to raise at least £20,000 for Rainbows children's hospice but the courier, Parcelforce, lost the item on the way to music promoter Dave Allen's home.

Allen had been collecting the signatures for over a year and was said to be "devastated" by the loss. Parcelforce has searched for the guitar for the last month.

He claimed that it was the first time they had "let the guitar out of our hands".
