The Heroes star claimed that she would like to follow in Jolie's footsteps as both an actress and a political campaigner.
Panettiere told People magazine: "Absolutely, I would take that. She was definitely one of my inspirations growing up and she was definitely somebody I looked up to."
Jolie has worked for humanitarian causes, while Panettiere is a passionate animal rights activist.
A warrant was issued for Panettiere's arrest in November after she attempted to stop Japanese fisherman completing an annual slaughter of dolphins.
