Jamie Oliver in supermarket fallout

Jamie Oliver has slammed Sainsbury's bosses for pulling out of a documentary he was making on factory farming.

The celebrity chef, who fronts the supermarket chain's big budget advertising campaigns, had asked its representatives to take part in a debate about selling battery-farmed eggs and chickens, along with bosses from Tesco, Asda and Morrisons.

But Oliver was left fuming when none of the superstore representatives showed up, and was particularly angry about Sainsbury's not appearing.

The TV star said: "It is shocking that the people I work for didn't turn up on the day. I don't know why.

"The fact that your PR department hasn't even got the confidence to turn up and talk about what you do for the millions of people who come through your doors each week. Of course the supermarkets should have turned up. How dare they not? I was really upset."

In the programme Jamie's Fowl Dinners, to be aired on Friday, Oliver reveals that some farmers are only paid 2p per chicken from supermarkets like Sainsbury's.

It was revealed earlier this week that Jamie will be shown slaughtering chickens on the show in a bid to educate viewers about the factory farming process.
