Ex-Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne has been banned from driving following his arrest for drink-driving last week.

Gascoyne, who played Peter Barlow, was disqualified from driving for a year and was fined £500 by magistrates in Llandudno after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Talking about his punishment, Gascoyne said: "I made a mistake. I admitted it then and I admit it now and I got what I expected.

"I made a stupid mistake and I would never do it again. I'd never drive after even half a pint now.

"On the night I was arrested I think I'd had about three and a half pints - but that was over quite a considerable few hours.

"I just want to say I apologise and I have to put it down to experience."

Gascoyne last appeared in the ITV soap in 2007 during the trial of his onscreen sister Tracey Barlow.

The actor has been playing Captain Hook in Peter Pan in the Welsh town over the festive period.
