Perez Hilton is entitled to legal costs following a failed defamation lawsuit that was brought against him by a friend of Lindsay Lohan.

The celebrity blogger can now claim $85,000, plus an extra $2,000 on request, as a result of the judge's ruling on Wednesday.

Hilton, real name Mario Lavandeira, was sued by Samantha Ronson after he reported comments made on another website about her planting cocaine in Lohan's car.

Commenting on the judge's ruling, Hilton's lawyer Bryan J Freedman said: "Perez Hilton will take steps to make sure every dime is collected.

"This should make one careful before filing a lawsuit against him."

Judge Elihu M. Berle argued that Hilton was protected by free speech rights.
