
The actor, who plays Dr Alex Karev in the hit ABC drama, was admitted to the psychiatric ward at the UCLA medical centre on Monday.
His spokesperson told TMZ that he went to the hospital "voluntarily to get some help" because he was "exhausted and suffers from a sleeping disorder".
The 37-year-old, who has five children, checked out of the facility on Wednesday.
He reportedly left just before the arrival of Britney Spears, who is currently on "mental health evaluation hold" after being removed from her home by police in the early hours of yesterday morning.
