Michelle Pfeiffer has revealed that her husband nearly ended up with her sister.

Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley spent most of the night chatting to her younger sibling when the couple were set up on a blind date in 1993.

She is quoted in the Daily Express as saying: "It wasn't instant love with David. We met on a blind date at a restaurant with a group of other people. We didn't speak to each other that night.

"He talked to my sister and I talked to his friend. And he and my sister seemed to be hitting it off so I thought maybe we should set them up instead. But the friend said don't you dare."

However, she added that the pair made a connection when they spent time alone, saying: "We finally had a date where it was just the two of us, and here we are."

They married in 1993 and have adopted daughter Claudia Rose, 14, and 13-year-old biological son John Henry.

Pfeiffer, 49, recently said she will not retire from acting, despite finding it increasingly difficult to find decent scripts as she gets older.
