Amy Winehouse has been denied a US visa and will miss out on attending this week's Grammy Awards.

According to The Sun, officials at London's US Embassy found traces of an unspecified illegal drug in her blood stream.

Winehouse checked into a rehabilitation clinic last month following the publication of a video that showed her taking crack cocaine.

A spokesperson for Winehouse said that the singer accepts the ban, but friends have revealed that she is "gutted" by the results.

Sources claimed that the star was "desperate" to appear in LA and are worried the news may cause her to relapse.

An insider said: "It was her main incentive to get clean. It’s a blow."

However, Winehouse is still expected to perform at the annual awards bash, via a satellite link.

Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said: "You will see Amy Winehouse on the Grammys. I’m very happy."
