Whoopi Goldberg has offered words of support to Patrick Swayze during his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Goldberg, who co-starred in '80s classic Ghost with Swayze, described the actor as "a man I adore" on US TV show The View.

Speaking directly to camera, the Sister Act actress said: "Baby, as always we want you to know, we want you to feel better. We'll talk soon, I hope."

She also thanked Swayze for supporting her during her career and helping her land the role in Ghost, which won her the Best Supporting Actress award at the Oscars.

Goldberg said: "When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick because [of how] he said, 'I'm not making this movie unless you put Whoopi Goldberg in it.' He knew I was right for this part."
