Doherty moved amid attack threats

Pete Doherty has been moved to a "safe" area of jail after fellow prisoners allegedly plotted to attack him.

The Babyshambles frontman asked to be transferred to the high security segregation unit, which he will share with 15 others, after guards discovered the plans.

Sky News claims that he was also strip-searched for drugs following tabloid reports that he had been injecting heroin in his cell. His manager has denied the allegations.

A source said Doherty was examined by four guards wearing latex gloves but took the search in his stride, adding: "He was quiet. He was calm. But he did seem pale - like Casper the Ghost.

"Pete is in the segregation unit for his own safety, and partly because he asked for the move himself."

The 29-year-old is serving a 14-week sentence in London's Wormwood Scrubs prison after breaching his bail conditions for drugs offences.
