Ricci: 'I was attacked by a monkey'

Christina Ricci has revealed that she hated working with a monkey on her new film Speed Racer.

The actress stars alongside the animal in the family adventure movie, but admitted that she couldn't get along with the chimp despite her best efforts.

She told DS: "I'm not a monkey fan. I tried to be a good sport. I was a good sport.

"I tried to change my opinion about monkeys early on, I gave myself a good talking to and decided to not be the only pill on set who didn't like the monkey."

Ricci said that she was forced to tell the directors Andy and Larry Wachowski that she couldn't stand being kind to her hairy co-star any longer after she was attacked on set by the creature.

"It sort of leapt out and grabbed me during one scene," said Ricci. "After that I asked the Wachowski brothers, 'I was pretending to like the monkey, it basically just attacked me, so can I not like it anymore?'

"Then they were like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, you don't have to like the monkey, it's OK'."
