Nesbitt: 'My troubles are behind me'

James Nesbitt has insisted that he has put his personal troubles behind him.

The former Cold Feet star said he reached an all-time low when he was revealed to be cheating on his wife in 2002.

Talking about his "self-destructive" behaviour, he told the Daily Record: "[I didn't know] what I was doing at the time. I was just, well, having a good laugh. I just don't think that, for a while, I knew who the heck I was.

"I spent years going around and doing interviews, giving great sound bites about this character called 'Jimmy Nesbitt' and, if truth be told, I actually didn't know who this 'Jimmy Nesbitt' character was. I think I was maybe more than a bit lost for a while."

He added that the tabloid reports about his infidelity had helped him get back on the right track, saying: "When my 'dual life' imploded, it was a huge turning point for me and I began to feel a lot more happy with myself."

The 43-year-old, who is still married to wife Sonia, said he now prefers a quiet dinner party with friends to the showbiz circuit.
