Redford engaged to long-term girlfriend

Robert Redford has announced his engagement to Sibylle Szaggars, his girlfriend since 1996.

Speaking to Bunte magazine about his relationship with the 52-year-old artist, Redford, 71, said: "We are engaged and very happy with that. She is my fiancée and that says everything, doesn't it?"

The actor/director previously married Lola Van Wagenen in 1958. The couple had four children - Shauna, 48, Jamie, 46, Amy, 38, and Scott, who they lost to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 1959 - before divorcing after 27 years together.

A huge box office star in the '60 and '70s, notably with Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and The Sting, Redford switched his focus to directing in recent years with Lions For Lambs his last outing in the director's chair.
