Showbiz Interview

Dannii Minogue, Tabitha Somerset-Webb talk clothes, coffee and Cheryl

By
Dannii Minogue found herself in the headlines last week for all the wrong reasons, but none of the celeb tittle tattle should overshadow her career as a popstar-turned-reality-TV-star-turned-fashion designer.

Together with her business partner Tabitha Somerset-Webb, Minogue has launched several seaons of day and evening dresses and fragrances. Now, together with Kenco Millicano, they've released the brand new 'K Bag'. Here's what they had to say about coffee, clothes, Cheryl Cole and much more besides.

Tabitha Somerset-Webb and Dannii Minogue

How did the collaboration with Kenco Millicano come about?
Tabitha: "When we were approached by Kenco Millicano, it immediately seemed like the right brand collaboration for us. We are two busy mums who are always on the go, and always need a coffee. So the idea of having a handy travel stick pack of Kenco Millicano packed in our handbag at any time was ideal for us, and we were flattered to be asked to design the handbag."
Dannii: "Well Tabitha has been one of my favourite handbag designers - so this was a magic time for me to learn just how she crafts them. Project D is always about comfort, support and design, so we put those elements into our 'K' Bag. The organiser inside that unclips and becomes a clutch [and] gets me in an arm candy flutter."

It's a limited run of which sold out at £250 - would it be unfair to say that the range is too exclusive for lots of your fans?
Tabitha: "Project D is about quality, design and investment pieces, so we hope that the people buying the 'K' bag will get pleasure from having a limited edition bag that will take them from season to season. All profits on this bag go to charity."
Dannii: "We would love to expand into different price ranges one day, but we are happy with our first bag design. When we saw it sell out, we knew our Project D fans loved it, and that just put the biggest smile on our faces. Our phones were running hot with friends wanting to know how they could get one."

Would you consider expanding the bag range or doing this type of thing again?
Tabitha: "Oh no, please don't put that thought in Dannii's head! For now the 'K' bag was a one-off, but it has had such an amazing reaction that it is definitely something we will consider again for the future. We are just thrilled to see the reaction to our first bag, and so pleased everyone loves wearing it!"
Dannii: "I would love to!!! I am always annoying Tabs and winding her up with my crazy wish list for Project D - we do laugh about it, as we would need to be cloned to get it all done. At the moment we are a very small operation, and expanding is definitely on our 'To Do' list! :-) Both being mums now with little ones, some days we feel we need more hours in the day."

Have you two ever considered doing a musical project together, and if you did, what would it sound like?
Tabitha: "That is literally my dream! I have been begging Dannii to do more music so I can be a backing singer or dancer, or for Dannii to get a cameo on Glee so that I can run past the camera... however, Dannii is yet to be convinced by my singing skills. Anyway, we would NEVER be able to agree on the same music..."
Dannii: "Ha... that literally made me fall off my chair! Tabs is into Dolly Parton and country music, but has a rock chic look. I have an eclectic mix of music right now that I love, from One Direction pop tunes to classical. If I could actually get Dora The Explorer songs out of my head, I would be able to hear it! If I gave you our iPods to listen to, you would realise us collaborating on a song could never happen. We do love going to concerts and singing at the top of our lungs, but luckily only our close mates get to hear that."

What do you like the guys in your life to wear and why?
Tabitha: "We have been jean shopping together for my hubby, and we both agree that a hot pair of jeans to show off a good physique is pretty near the top of the list! Add a crisp tailored shirt... maybe showing some pecs, and both of us would be very happy!"
Dannii: "My shopping consists of very small clothing for my little man, Ethan, and he is growing so fast that there is a weekly wardrobe clear out and turn over."

Cheryl Cole also went from The X Factor to having her own fashion range - what did you guys make of her recent shoe collection? Will you be doing your own shoes soon?
Tabitha: "We know how hard it is to do your own thing, so we have the utmost respect for anyone who does it - all Cheryl needs now is a fabulous Project D dress to wear with her killer heels! There are a lot of exciting things in the pipe line for Project D, so watch this space... you just never know. Although I am not convinced either of us need anymore shoes in our wardrobes..."
Dannii: "Ahhhh 'shoerobes' give me more foot candy! I love how her designs are cute and named after her favourites sweets. I could see the little pastel shades with our latest print dresses. A perfect match."

How do you like your coffee?
Tabitha: "Well, now that is a funny one. I love my coffee boiling hot, and don't drink it unless it scalds my tongue, whereas Dannii loves it warm. Not quite sure what that says about us! Either way we both need a cup of Kenco Millicano in the mornings to kickstart the day at Project D HQ!"
Dannii: "I'm obsessed about always having a cup of coffee on my desk while I work. I bought our office lots of cute cups with sweet pictures on them. Generally I use the most massive mug and that is why I drink warm coffee. It's so American I know, but size does matter!"

Music, TV, Movies and now fashion - have you got any other career ambitions you want to fulfil?
Tabitha: "We always discuss our dreams, and we have a lot of them. We can't quite believe the fashion line has launched and is actually being sold in shops, so we need to consolidate that before we go on to world domination! But we definitely have a little dream that one day we will live together in our houses on the beach writing our novels and hoping we at least tried to achieve everything we could. Project D still has a lot to do!"
Dannii: "I am itching to do a Project D bridal range and kids clothing. I know I dream too big too soon, and Tabs has to keep me under control. Side by side beach houses will be incredible… as long as we don't look like the old lady in the film Something About Mary!"

Dannii Minogue and Tabitha Somerset Webb - Project D - have designed their first luxury handbag to celebrate the latest trend in instant coffee, Kenco Millicano, now available in a portable Stick Pack. The limited edition K Bag is available at mywardrobe.com
